Vintage Eye for the Modern Guy: Replica Omega Speedmaster Mark II

As many watch enthusiasts are aware, the wide-ranging Omega Speedmaster series — with its Moonwatches and auto-racing legends — has become one of the most popular and iconic series of replica watches available today. Each of the collection’s modern pieces, and subsequent “sub-series” like the Moonwatch, Speedmaster ’57, and Mark II families, have all built individual stories around themselves, attracting plenty of appreciation, for both the modern and historical versions, from connoisseurs and collectors of horology.

The Omega Replica Speedmaster, originally released in 1957, went on to become the timepiece of choice for racecar drivers, astronauts, and various other adventurous types. But the line did not become iconic overnight: it was through years of tedious research, development, and field-testing that the Speedmaster series foiund its way onto the wrists of the people who needed them most. One instance of this testing was in the late 1960s, as part of a secret research project, conducted jointly by Omega and NASA, called “The Alaska Project.” Omega, looking to continue to improve its space-ready replica watches, worked with NASA to produce a number of prototypes to replace what would later be called the Moonwatch.

But in 1969, after about a million Swiss francs (approximately $7 million when adjusted for inflation) had been spent, and several years’ worth of man-hours had been worked, in trying to produce the perfect space watch, NASA ultimately decided the original Omega Moonwatch was sufficient for its mission to exploring the great beyond. Thus it happened that replica Omega, rather than creating the ultimate watch for space, used its findings from the project and began applying them to other models that would be available to the general public.

From this was born the Mark series, originally the Mark II Ref. 145.014, easily recognizable as an example of the funky, 1970s style of replica watches characterized by thick cases, hidden lugs, and unusual colors. This series, while not as recognizable as the Moonwatch or George Clooney’s 1957-inspired Speedmaster, has nevertheless over the years developed its own well-deserved following, and still today represents a distinct watchmaking era in Omega’s history. Thus, in 2014, Omega revived the original 1969 piece in a largely faithful re-interpretation for modern consumers. It produced two interesting models to pay homage to ‘70s classic (which we will be looking at today), and one with a unique dial and case variant in honor of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

These modern watches (References 327. and 327. have each been designed to reflect the maximum amount of “vintage flair,” while still offering excellent modern attributes. With a 42.4-mm brushed steel case and accompanying Omega link bracelet, the modern piece is no longer the wide behemoth it might have been viewed as a few decades ago, but still sits rather thick upon the wrist as a result of its unusual, ovular-shaped case. There are two dial options — either the grey “Racing” style with its eye-catching orange accents or the classic black dial more reminiscent of other Speedmaster sub-series. Both feature a black outer tachymeter scale; an outer minute ring (a signature of the Mark series); three subdials to measure running seconds, chronograph minutes, and chronograph hours; and a date window at the 6 o’clock mark.

Also note the utilitarian, swordlike hour and minute hands, and the central chronograph seconds hand that is unique to the Speedmaster. Within the case resides the automatic Caliber Omega 3330, an in-house movement that incorporates some of brand’s best modern technical innovations, such as the co-axial escapement and the silicon balance spring, which gives the piece an approximately 52-hour power reserve of extremely accurate timekeeping. If you are currently searching for this piece, you’ll be able to find starting at $370 depending on the dealer.

The fake Omega uk brand, to its credit, has devoted quite a bit of effort to produce some very interesting historical re-interpretation fake watches in the past few years. Of course, it helps that the brand has some of the most historically iconic pieces of the past century in its lineup. With this said, the modern Mark II re-interpretation is a solid example of a well-developed historical model. Many of the original watch’s features are unchanged in the modern version, right down to the two dial options. Also, the case proportions and ‘70s styling are more or less the same, as are many of the less obvious features, such as the black outer tachymeter scale and subdial hands.

Of course, as with any modern re-interpretation of a vintage replica watch, Omega has made a few minor adjustments for the benefit of the contemporary consumer. These include a modern automatic chronograph movement, which replaces the 1969-era, hand-wound Caliber 861; more indented subdials; the modern Speedmaster chronograph seconds counter; and, perhaps most obviously, the 6 o’clock date window. Other subtle changes include the tachymeter scale being slightly thinner to increase the visibility of the dial, as well as a slight coloring on the outermost edges of the minute ring, which are most noticeable on the “Racing” dial variant.

The Omega Replica Speedmaster line will continue its status as a legend within the world of horology, an honor well-earned after the watch’s trip to the moon, not to mention the millions of dollars spent in research, development, and advertising. As such, it is to the brand’s benefit to continue producing modern replica watches with much of the flair of their historical predecessors. Furthermore, it is to its benefit to continue catering to that growing base of educated consumers looking to own a modern watch heavily based on a lesser known historical model—such as today’s contemporary Speedmaster Mark II.

To celebrate Rio Games, Omega had a special event in Bengaluru on Tuesday. As a gesture of good luck, PH Narayanan, Brand Manager of Omega India, presented Saina with special Omega replica watches.

Commenting on her association with the brand, Saina said, “There is a natural connection with replica Omega as it stands for precision, excellence and accuracy which are also the cornerstones of every sport. I am honoured to be here today for a brand that has been timing the greatest sporting event for the last 84 years.”

Omega replica watches brand to branch out into sunglasses

The first summer collection of Omega sunglasses will be available in Omega boutiques around the world from August 2016.

Luxury replica watchmaker Omega will launch its own brand of sunglasses later this year as part of a partnership with Italian eyewear maker Marcolin Group announced on Wednesday, expanding further beyond its core business.

Omega replica, part of the Swiss Swatch Group is best known for its precision timekeeping as a sponsor of the Olympic Games, but also sells jewellery and other accessories including leather goods and perfume.

Swiss replica watchmakers are struggling with weak demand for luxury items as fewer tourists shop in Hong Kong and Europe and a strong Swiss franc pushes up production costs.

In February, Swatch Group announced a five-year partnership with Italian eyewear maker Safilo to launch glasses under its lower-price Swatch brand.

The first summer collection of Omega sunglasses will be available in Omega boutiques around the world from August 2016, the companies said in a statement.

“Fake Omega is a strong brand so it should be able to branch out into sunglasses and other luxury products if carefully handled,” Kepler Cheuvreux analyst Jon Cox said.

“However, I would tend to think this is being done because of weakness in the fake watch market and the company is looking for fresh income sources given pressure on its core category.”

The expansion into sunglasses brings the Swatch Group into competition with Italy’s Luxottica which owns the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands.

TV appeal to catch muggers who stole £4k Omega replica watches from special forces veteran with Alzheimer’s

— Frank Marchington, 83, was attacked as he walked to the pub in Failsworth

The family of an elderly special forces veteran with Alzheimer’s who was mugged for his treasured wrist watch have spoken of their anger in a fresh appeal.

Frank Marchington’s wife Lily and his daughter Deborah blasted the ‘disgusting’ attack which happened as Frank, 83, walked to his local pub in Failsworth, near Oldham.

Frank, a father-of-four and great-grandfather, served with the Royal Marines for 23 years and was part of the elite Special Boat Service unit.

He was given the Omega Constellation diving replica watch by the Marines after completing a special assignment in Bahrain. It’s worth £4,000, but is priceless to Frank and his family.

He was walking towards the Nelson Tavern on the corner of Lord Lane and Hulmes Road in Failsworth, but never arrived.

He was jumped from behind then punched in the head by a thug who also stole his wallet.

Confused and shaken, Frank staggered home at around 9.30pm, telling his wife of 58 years Lily that no one was in the pub.

He told his family the following day and police were alerted. The attack took place on April 4. His family have now spoken to the BBC in a fresh appeal on Crimewatch Roadshow.

Lily said: “He has had the replica watch all these years and then someone just takes it. It is disgusting. He did not wear it everyday. He just must have fancied putting it on that night.”

Frank, who has also relived the ordeal for the first time as part of the new appeal, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2005 and need constant care from his family.

His daughter Deborah added: “He is a proud man. A few years ago nobody would have taken that watch from him. He was angry and upset.”

Veteran Frank – who served in countries including Malta and Singapore – said: “He just come from behind, hit me and knocked me to the floor. He took my watch and, obviously, my wallet.”

Police have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses. Investigating officers said because of Frank’s dementia, he wasn’t appeal to give a full description.

Pc Lee Cullen said a second attacker may have been involved. He said: “The watch meant a lot to Frank. He had it for 50 years. We think that this could have been a targeted attack and that he could have told somebody in the community about the watch. He was a very vulnerable man.”

The watch, which has a bronze face, was in very good condition and was kept in a box. It has a triangle stamp on the back of the face, alongside the words ‘Dennison’.

After reading the initial story of his attack in the M.E.N. the Special Boat Service Association is having a unique replacement watch made for him.

Police fear it could be offered for sale on the black market and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
